Terms

We are inviting up to ten professional international stone sculptors to our next Symposium`24 with a focus on individual artistic positions, the opportunity for dialogue and communal living and working. The Kunstfelt Stålaker organize and carry out the Symposium Norge and support the participants in their concerns and working processes. The sponsor of the Symposium Norge, Lundhs AS, is in possession of Larvikite quarries with stones in different colors and lets the artists choose their artistic materials from these natural resources, which is not intended for industrial use. The participant will receive a working grant of EUR 1.300 and an additional travel support of EUR 200. Overseas travelers will receive a travel grant of EUR 500 to limit their higher costs. A workplace with electricity, air access together with air drilling machines is provided at the quarry site. The transport and movement of the stones during the work process is ensured. Each participant must bring their own tools and is responsible for their use. Tools and equipment can also be easily purchased from nearby shops (see link information attached below). If the participants need professional help for drilling, splitting and cutting, the cost must be paid by the sculptor. All sculptors are themselves responsible for their creative and manual work and the professional handling of tools and machines is required in all areas of creating their sculpture.

For exhibition purposes, the sculptures will remain at the Symposium Norge for a period of one year. After this year, all rights to the sculpture are transferred to the artist (excluding material price). In case the sculptor decides to transport the sculpture after the exhibition year from the quarry area, the sculptor is responsible for the cost of the stone and transportation. The stone price for symposium participants is reduced to 50% and amounts to NOK 3.500 per m³ raw block for non-industrially usable stone. In this case the sculpture belongs totally by the artist. In the event of a sale, 35% of the sales amount goes to the Symposium Norge. If the sculpture remains at the Symposium Norge, the sculpture can be used for exhibition purposes in consultation with the artist.

The number of participants is intended to be limited between eight to ten international sculptors. The Symposium Norge offers food&beverages and accommodation in the Symposium House (Håkestadveien 193, NO-3280 Tjodalyng) and in cabins in the quarry area, close to the working places, with single rooms and a communal kitchen. The group will organize themselves and is accordingly responsible for the preparation of their dishes as well as for the care of the Symposium House.

In the course of the Symposium`24, the operators of the Symposium Norge will take photos and content of the symposium event to convey and publish them. The Symposium Norge would like to support an exchange with Norwegian culture and art and the event will traditionally ends with an exhibition for the public. This final presentation of the artists and their sculptures will take place on Saturday August 10th, 2024. We look forward to a good cooperation and to our guests.
